ROAD & RAIL LINKS

The historic Tuscan town of Bagni di Lucca is approximately one hour by train or car from Pisa Airport and twenty minutes from the mediaeval walled city of Lucca

From Bagni di Lucca there is a good road and rail network to Florence, the beautiful seaside resorts of Viareggio and Forti di Marmi

The Garfagnana is to the North of the town and affords the opportunity for many leisure activities;  walking, trekking, visiting areas of natural beauty

The SS12 from Bagni di Lucca to the Italian skiing resort of Abetone provides and interesting and picturesque insight into the local area.

The cost of public transport in Tuscany is very low compared with UK standards

You need to buy bus tickets in advance of travel

These can be obtained from several bars in Bagni di Lucca, for example at Maria e Elena opposite Punto Supermarket and from the newsagent  (Edicola) at Ponte a Serraglio, opposite Bar Italia

You must pay cash, credit cards will not be accepted

Vai buses will take you to Lucca, Firenze, Viareggio and there are services to local villages such as Barga and Fornaci di Barga

Buses are usually air conditioned and very clean

Vai bus stops are blue and marked FERMATA

You must remember to validate your ticket when you get on the bus;  if you do not and an inspector checks you will be fined
